– Pleased to see young players getting drafted
Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Harpy Eagles wicket-keeper /batsman Kemol Savory said the inclusion of several young players to the squad this season, is good for the development of their skills at an early age, adding that he’s more locked in than ever after being among those recently drafted.
Savory, who was among the new faces to earn contracts following the end of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Professional Cricket League (PCL) Player draft last week, told Kaieteur Sports it feel good to final solidify his spot in the team.
“It’s a great feeling to be rewarded for my hard work over the seasons. I’ve been putting in a lot of time and dedication towards improving how I play my cricket and as I said, I’m happy that I can now focus on keeping my place in the Harpy Eagles team while improving my game”.
The 26 year-old said outside of his long-term plans to improve and up his cricket, he’s especially geared towards making an impression in the upcoming Super50. “My focus is and has always been to get fitter and stronger, but I’m shifting focus to increasing my training and getting myself ready for the Super50 tournament ahead.”
Shifting focus to the slightly new-look side, featuring a few senior players but with roughly 7 players under the age of 25, the Eagles will be banking on their rising stars, a number of which have been successful for Guyana/ West Indies at the youth levels.
Giving his thoughts on the team’s new faces, Savory, who was once a young player in the Academy among a number of senior stars before eventually getting his opportunity at the senior level, said, it was good to see the selector giving young players opportunities and instilling trust in them at an early age.
“It feels good to see young players like me, getting this opportunity at an early age to better our skills while being ambassadors for our country. I believe we have a good balanced team and I think us young guys still have a lot to learn but given this new opportunity. I think we will be able to continue growing from strength to strength,” he ended.
