Kaieteur Sports – A boundary-studded 104 not out from opening batsman and Canada-based Guyanese, Anil Etwaroo, fired Sunshine to a resounding innings and two-run win over Aces Cricket Club last Saturday in one of the 2023 Ontario Round-Arm Softball Cricket Association (ORSCA)/KP Employment Services “Test” semis.
Playing at the Robert J. Lee Public School ground in Brampton, the right-handed Etwaroo blasted 12 sixes and five fours as Sunshine raced to 194-1 from the allotted 12-overs replying Aces Cricket Club’s first innings 114-8 (12). Etwaroo, who hails from Wakenaam in Essequibo, knocked five consecutive sixes in one over. He got terrific support from Jeetendra Beharry who blazed a decorated, unbeaten 79 which counted ten sixes, including six sixes in a solitary over. In Aces second innings, they only made 78-4, two runs short of making Sunshine batting again. Scores in the match: Aces Cricket Club 114-8 (12) and 74-4 (12); Sunshine 194-1 (12). Roger Ramanand grabbed 4-28 from two overs to help limit Aces Cricket Club to their first innings modest total.
And across at Thackeray Cricket venue in Etobicoke, the action was more intense there but Masters pulled off a thrilling seven-run triumph over Brampton Gladiators.
Masters batted first at the invitation of Gladiators and they reached a challenging 155-2 (12) with Rajkumar Budhram making a steady 59 while Azam Haniff and Kumar Dudnauth contributed 40 and 27 respectively.
Brampton Gladiators replied with 135-5 from the 12-overs with former Guyana first-class skipper Damodar Daesrath scoring 44 and 32 from Farook Hussain.
Masters, in their second innings, made 142-8 (12) with a lead of 20 setting Brampton Gladiators a competitive 163 for victory. Gladiators ended at 155-8 at the conclusion of the 12-overs. For Masters, Chien Gittens struck 83 as Naresh Bhagwandin grabbed 3-22.
Looknauth Ramsichit had scored 36 for Gladiators with Gittens snatching 4-26 from his maximum three overs.
Meanwhile, the final is slated for this Saturday at Dixie-407 ground in Brampton with umpires calling play from 9:30 am.
