Kaieteur News – Guyana Harpy Eagles Head Coach Ryan Hercules believes this new batch of level 1 & 2 coaches will play a pivotal role In the growth of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and their countrywide Academy Programmes.
Hercules told Kaieteur Sports that following the end to the recent Cricket West Indies (CWI) Level 1 and 2 courses held at Providence more than a week ago, he’s pleased with the aftermath of things.
“After the end of the course and even during, I am happy to see the coaches eagerness and interest to learn what was taught by the facilitators. The new pathway of coaching from CWI is vital for coaches to get the knowledge to share with players who they would be working with, so I was impressed with the turnout of participants and the end results of the course,” said Hercules.
Hercules, one of the few Level 3 qualified coaches around the West Indies, followed up by touching on the importance of the educational aspects of courses as it relates to marrying that with academics/school.
“It’s very important to have these educational courses, we need more coaches across the country to mold and nurture players. With Guyana on the brink of being a cricketing hub throughout the world it would open more opportunities for players and even coaches to be a part of a professional environment, not only in clubs and academies but across schools.”

Guyana Harpy Eagles head Coach Ryan Hercules and West Indies Test opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul have a chat.
The recent course featured not only a number of local pure coaches, but a number of current and ex-cricketers were also among the 20-odd batch who will now pursue a career in coaching. Hercules, a former national player turned elite coach, was pleased to see more of his kind on board the train.
“As a former cricketer, to see the likes of Anthony Bramble, Rajendra Chandrika, Assad Fudadin and others embarking on this venture with their most recent playing knowledge and experience, I believe they can now share first hand tips to players / do’s and don’ts and much more to our less experienced coaches and young players,” said Hercules.
With a 4-Day title under his belt this season, off the back of a successful run with Guyana Amazon Warriors as assistant coach last season and a much more recent run as Coach of Team Headley, Hercules said his experience will only add to the benefit of the upcoming players as it creates a bigger environment off field.
“Be the best you can in imparting the knowledge learned at the course, be an ambassador for your community, county, and country. Create a culture where players would want to come and learn new skills and even basic knowledge of life.
” Not every player may make it to a west indies team but at this point coaches can also be role models to guide them along a path of being successful in life overall,” he ended.
