Kaieteur News – The inaugural first Horse Racing event for 2023 ‘The Opening Day Stakes’ was officially rescheduled to the 12th March, 2023 by the host, Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee. The much-anticipated race, which was originally carded for Sunday 26th February 2023, was expected to be the launchpad for the 2023 Horse Racing calendar. Stable owners and jockeys were expected out in full force competing for the glorious trophies, cash and bragging rights.
When a thorough check of the Rising Sun Turf Club track was completed by the management team the decision was made to postpone. The committee was not in a position to allow the race to continue while running a high risk of horses & jockeys being injured.
For 2023 the JJTRC has placed particular emphasis into an area that was a sore point for our 2022 events. Parking and traffic management was one main topic and for this upcoming race there will be free internal parking for all in attendance. The Guyana Police Force Traffic Ranks will be out readily available to ensure a smooth flow is achieved.
When reached via cell phone Mr. Nasrudeen ‘Juniour’ Mohamed of the JJTRC indicated, “We are in the final stages of our plans to build a state of the art facility with an all-weather track that is guaranteed to attract a much higher international patronage of horses. As you know we’ve spent millions on Rising Sun in 2022 for Guyana Cup to bring it to a higher standard but weather is beyond our control. I know many stables have put in the work to prepare for Sunday hence the reason why we choose the soonest possible date. We have a lot of surprises planned for 2023 and this is just the tip of the iceberg. So keep up the hard work as we all come together to build the sport and provide entertainment for the entire family.”
