Kaieteur News – Four players from the Rebel Tennis Club will travel to St Lucia this week to compete in the Sagicor Junior Tennis tournament scheduled from the 4th to 12th of this month.
Nathan DeNobrega, who recently returned from representing us in Trinidad, will be leaving for St. Lucia on August 4 to 12 to participate in the Sagicor Junior Tennis tournament.
Nathan is Guyana’s number one under12 player and the reigning Sheltez and Rebel under12 champion. He is also scheduled to compete in Trinidad from August 20 to 27.
Renola Jordan is the girls under 14 and 18 top ranked player and the reigning GBTI ladies champion. She also will play in the Sagicor Junior tournament in St Lucia and is scheduled to compete in Trinidad on August 20 to 27.
Gerald Scotland is Guyana’s top ranked U-18 player and the reigning GBTI boys champion. He also was a finalist in the men’s doubles open at the GBTI tournament recently.
Gerald will play his first ITF tournament in Trinidad on August 20 to 27. He represented the club in Trinidad and the Inter Guyana games in the U-12 division a few years ago.
Navindra Arjune is making his debut in overseas competition. He was the Rebel under 14 finalists last year. Navindra will also be representing us in St. Lucia and Trinidad this month.
Funding for our top junior players remains a struggle. Thanks to all who contributed, especially Cathy Hughes, James Bond, Carlos Adams, Fedella Corbin-Lincoln, Mark Waldron, Dale Constructions, members of Life-springs Ministries, University of Guyana staff members, Arjune’s Construction Inc. and the parents of Rebel Tennis Club. Anyone who is willing to contribute can contact us on 648-9132 and 686-3844. (Sean Devers)
