After their first day loss to Barbados, Guyana’s game against Trinidad and Tobago was washed yesterday without a ball being bowled as they shared the points.
Guyana’s Head Coach Julian Moore, said, while not being able to play yesterday was disappointing, it was due to the rain, and there was nothing nobody could have done.
Senior off-spinner Plaffianna Millington missed the Barbados game because of late Vaccination and her quarantine period ends tomorrow.
“Millington will be available for us from the next round. She’s a seasoned campaigner for Guyana so having her will definitely be a big plus for us,” said Moore, a former National U-15 left-hander.
Set 87 to win, Guyana started badly when Katana Mentore (4) was LBW to Shanika Bruce at 9-1.
Skipper Shemaine Campbell and Vice-Captain Shabika Gajnabi took the score to 54 before Gajnabi (14) was caught behind off Aaliyah Alleyne to trigger a dramatic collapse in which they lost nine wickets for 26 runs.
Tremaine Smartt (13) who was last dismissed, being the only other Guyanese Batter to reached double figures.
“I think we lost wickets in cluster at key moments in the game. The skipper and Vice- Captain gave us a good partnership that pretty much gave us the upper hand but I think we didn’t capitalize and saw it through. Having said that, there were lots of positives we could build on, the bowlers as a group were excellent, but it’s just for us to consistently get good scores,” said the Berbician.
Meanwhile, in the second game yesterday, Shanika Bruce’s 3-15 helped defending Champions Barbados to dismiss the Leewards for 60 in 18.2 overs.
Barbados, who beat Guyana in the opening round on Tuesday, reached 61-1 from 6.4 overs as Skipper Haley Matthews finished unbeaten on 23 as Barbados, who won both the T20 and 50-over titles when the tournament was last played in 2019 in Guyana, made their mark.
