After a second and final stoppage due to rain yesterday at the Queen’s Park Oval on a depressingly wet and windy day in Trinidad, Guyana Harpy Eagles were 30 without loss replying to the 218 made by T&T Red Force in a game in which almost five seasons have been affected by the adverse weather.
At the crease was Tagenarine Chanderpaul on three from 43 balls and Tevin Imlach on 25 from 54 balls with three boundaries.
On the resumption at 3:45 PM, Chanderpaul, who took 30 balls to get off the mark, clipped Gabriel for two to mid-wicket and demonstrated tremendous patience and concentration, while Imlach was playing his shots before rain sent the players and Umpires scurrying off the field for a final time for the day at 4:02PM.
Earlier, the Red Force began the third day on 203-9 with Terrence Hinds on nine and Shannon Gabriel on five and they took the score to 218 with Hinds being unbeaten on 22.
Gabriel had his stumps scattered by Paul who ended with 6-50, while Gudakesh Motie supported with 2-35.
When the Harpy Eagles began their reply, Imlach, with two fifties in his last two games, stroked a couple imperious boundaries before rain stopped play at 10:30 AM with Guyana on 19-0 from 12.4 overs with Imlach on 16 and Tagenarine Chanderpaul on one.
Play eventually resumed at 3:45pm but only 3:2 overs were bowled with Imlach being ‘squared up’ by Terrence Hinds as the ball peeled off the outer half of the bat and galloped all along the ground across the still fast outfield despite the pounding it took over that last two days from the rain.
According to the Guyana camp, the intention now, with rain taking away so much time and a result unlikely, is to bat for the rest of the match and get as much runs as possible.
Today is the final day and play is scheduled to commence at 9:30 AM.
There was no played yesterday in the other two matches in Diego Martin and Turuba.
