Kaieteur News – Competitors for the first round of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC)/Secure Innovations & Concepts (SIC) Inc. Endurance championship will have to wait at least one more week before they are able push the limit of their machines at the South Dakota Circuit after the club was forced to postpone the season-opening meet.
In an invited comment, GMR&SC boss, Rameez Mohamed, contended that the event had to be shifted due to some emergency works on the track.
“We had to push back the date once more because of the works that were recently done to the track. While the actual works are completed, we were advised by the engineers that the surface needs curing time to ensure the proper settlement of the asphalt.”
Mohamed stated too that the curing time was determinant on the weather at the Timehri-based facility, adding that sunshine is required.
He opined that, “We know that a lot of guys have been looking forward to this but I’m sure everyone that races at South Dakota can understand the reason. We all love racing and want to do it in the safest manner as well as preserve the venue for as long as possible.”
This added time will give competitors the opportunity to fully rectify any issues with their machines and can be seen as a win-win situation.
The three-hour event is anticipated to see a full grid of cars and will precede the first round of the Drag Championship.
The event will be held in accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines which means that all participants must wear masks, sanitise and be subject to mandatory temperature tests.
Prospective competitors are reminded that helmets and gloves are required and those interested in competing are asked to make contact with the GMR&SC via their Albert Street office.
