Entertaining centuries from Combermere School’s Kastun Stoute and Seth Agard on their school ground against Guyana’s Queen’s College was the highlight of Thursday’s action in the rain affected 33rd annual Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools cricket tournament as Combermere School beat QC by 249 runs.
Combermere is known for its cricket structure on the 166sq miles Island and has produced several West Players including Kraigg and Carlos Braithwaite, Sir Wes Hall, Sir Frank Worrell and Sir Clyde Walcott, Jamal Warrican and of course their most famous student; Superstar recording artist Rihanna.
On another cloudy morning on the outskirts of Bridgetown, Combermere piled up 364-3 in 39 overs as Stoute smashed a pugnacious 167 from just 75 balls decorated with eight fours and15 sixes, while the slightly more sedate Agard took 103 balls for his unbeaten 107 as he reached the boundary seven times.
The pair, which shared in a century partnership, got support from Jaden Leacock 44 and Amari Goodridge 35 as Amos Sarwan had 2-68 for QC who were kept in shackles and labored to 115-3 in 39 overs.
Navindra Persaud, who scored a century in a record double century opening stand with Brandon Jaikaran in an earlier game, again looked good but failed to build on his 34, while Jaikaran made 15 as their team made a solid but painfully slow start.

Andsuegga Rodrigues made a useful contribution with bat and ball for the Business School on Thursday.
Bhedesh Persaud with 22 not out and Sarwan unbeaten on 12 shared in a useful unbroken fourth wicket stand but they struggled to get the ball off the square.
At Bridgefield: the contest between Sir Everton Weekes CoE U17 and the Business School of Guyana was abandoned due to wet conditions with the home team on 131-9 in 31.5 overs. Shaqkere Parris 27, Renacko Belgrave 26, Jabari Hunte 16, Giovonte Depeiza 14 were the main scorers for the Bajans.
And on Wednesday at the Wayne Daniel ground, Antigua Combined Schools beat The Business School by seven wickets.
The Business School fell for 92 in 26.4 overs despite Ushardeva Balgobin’s 19 and Andsuegga Rodriguez’s 13.
Tehrique Mason captured 6-26 for Antigua who waltzed to 93-3 in 17 overs with Jahiem Africa ending on 38 not out, Michael Marcellin making 20 and Asher Cornelius soring 11.
Rodriguez had 2-14, Joel Gilkes 3-22 and Ushardeva Balgobin 2-4 in an effort for the Guyanese educational institution.
Yesterday the semi-finals were scheduled to be played with Combermere School (Bar) v Sir Everton Weekes COE U17 (Bar) at the Empire ground and St Catherine Juniors v Alleyne School Wanderers in another all Bajan affair.
Also scheduled for yesterday was the play-off for 9th& 10th spot between 360 Cricket School/Academy of Australia and Queen’s College at the Weymouth ground in Bridgetown, while the play-off for 15th 7 16th place between the Business School and Queen’s Park of Trinidad was set for the Lears ground.
