The battle lines will be drawn this evening at the Parc Rayne Event Centre, Rahaman’s Turn, Houston, East Bank Demerara when the 2018 edition of the Guyana Amateur Body Building & Fitness Federation (GABBFF) Mr. Guyana comes off.
Months of hard work for both the male and female athletes would be judged tonight and the best looking in the eyes of the judges would earn the winners prizes and bragging rights in the respective categories.
Additionally, the respective body building category winners will have the opportunity to contest the Mr. Guyana segment. The ladies would be competing in the Miss Body Fitness and Miss Bikini, while there would also be the battle in the Men’s Physique Class.
This is where old rivals, the reigning Mr. Physique champion Yannick Grimes and Emmerson Campbelle will face off among other athletes. This contest is anticipated to be very keen.
The body building aspect of the show will see former Mr. Guyana Kerwyn Clarke, who was dethroned last year by the USA based Bruce Whatley, making a concerted effort to reclaim the title.
Meanwhile, the federation in a bid to ensure that its judges are in tune with the latest information in the sport organised a Judges Certification and Refresher Course which started yesterday and will conclude today.
The course (theory & practical) is being facilitated by Chairman of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Judges Panel, Mr. Errol Williams Chairman of Antigua & Barbuda and is being held at The Giftland Mall Complex, Plantation Pattensen, East Coast, Demerara.
GABBFF President Coel Marks has informed that four new judges are expected to be certified whilst those already in the business are being refreshed. He commented: “It was really a day of sharing and upgrading. From the course we will be certifying four new judges and all the current judges got the necessary upgrades on the judging criteria. With this initiative we will commit to hosting at least one seminar each year and certifying more people and keeping our judges fresh and current. One of the achievements of the course was we were able to upgrade ourselves and our neighbours to the east, Suriname, and they have expressed gratitude for this opportunity.”
Admission to tonight’s event is $2,500 and Showtime is 19:00hrs.
