Eldorado winners – In picture the 5 winners pose with the Miss World Guyana finalists as well as DDL representatives and other dignitaries.
El Dorado delivered on its promise for a well-supported 6th Annual Tournament as the golfers at the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) took to the course and battled for supremacy. And it was no easy victory for former golf coach Nazeem “Papo” Haniff who managed to scrape to the front, as at least 3 others were close on his heels; for a while our Tournaments have not seen such keenly contested activity.
Papo, who has not been in the winner’s seat for quite a while now – he was the Guyana Open Men’s Champion about 8 years ago – explained, “My game is coming back good!” This means of course that he is another strong contender for the Guyana Open Champion in November.
On hand to formally open the Tournament was El Dorado Brand Manager, Maria Munro, who in addition to wishing the golfers a great torunament, expressed the Company’s pleasure to be involved with the Lusignan Golf Club, and their commitment to continue to support the Club in its development. El Dorado Rum, a brand of Demerara Distelleries Ltd (DDL) began sponsoring golf tournaments as a distinct sponsor from DDL since 2011, while DDL itself has been supporting the LGC for over 20 years.
At the end of the tournament the winners were: Best Gross – Avinash Persaud 75; Nearest the Pin – Nazeem ‘Papo’ Haniff. The Net score winners were: 4th place – Richard Haniff 69/11; 3rd – Aleem Hussain 69/11; 2nd – Balgobin Ragnauth 69/21; and 1st Nazeem Haniff 68/9. In addition to the tie of Net 69 for 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, the Net scores up to 72 showed just how keenly the tournament was contested, despite the fact that the grounds, while payable were not completely dry. Close Net scores were returned by Patanjalee ‘Pur’ “I love that winning feeling” Persaud 70/18; Munaf Arjune 71/9; Kassim Khan 71/9; Patrick Prashad 72/9; Troy Cadogan 72/25; Avinash Persaud 73/2; Lekhnarine Shivraj 73/18; and Brian Hackett 73/19.
On hand to assist with the distribution of prizes and hampers were five of the finalists of the Miss World Guyana pageant, just concluded on May 26, 2018, including winner Ambika Ramraj, first runner-up Tracy Smith and second runner-up Joylyn Conway.
