Parika Masters defeated Everest Masters by one wicket when the teams collided in a 25-over fixture recently at Parika Salem ground, East Bank Essequibo. The visitors won the toss and lost Shivnarine Chanderpaul for three but Sahadeo Hardaiow hit a top score of 60 while Saheed Mohamed chipped with 24 as their team posted 169-7 in front of a large crowd.
A. Fredericks picked up five of the seven wickets to fall. Parika Masters were pegged back early in the chase when Chanderpaul and Hardaiow picked up two wickets each. However, B. Singh stood firm hitting a top score of 60 to take his team on the brink of victory.
Parika Masters needed four from four balls with the last pair at the crease, but their victory was assured when a wide beat the wicket-keeper and went into the boundary as the home team finished on 171-9. Rakesh Gangaram and Ronald Jaisingh also picked up two wickets each for Everest Masters.
The day’s event was organised and sponsored by Everest player, Imtiaz Sadik who also presented the Guyanese batting legend, Chanderpaul with a plaque. Chanderpaul took the opportunity to mingle with the fans following the presentation.
