Tree-planting exercise among early Education Month activities

The Ministry of Education completed a ‘tree-planting’ exercise in all schools across the

country, on Wednesday, in observance of Education Month.
Education Month 2017 is held under the theme ‘Promoting wellness and in communities through quality education’.
The tree-planting activity attracted Chief Education Officer (CEO) Marcel Hutson and other officials from the Ministry.
Kaieteur News caught up with Hutson at the Tucville Primary and Secondary Schools.
“We are trying to ensure that we do not harm the environment and more so, ensure that we fix it in such a way that we will enjoy a better life by not degrading it,” the CEO stated.
Hutson added that this was just one of the many activities that the ministry has planned in observance of Education Month.
“We trust that as we continue to roll out the activities of Education Month, all our teachers, our students, other educationists, the community members, and the business community will be a part of this process, because we’re advocating that without the input of all stakeholders, which includes the home, the school and community, nothing is possible.”
Progress has begun in the delivery of education, according to the CEO, however he confessed that,

“We are not where we want to be.” He assured the pupils that he is working to do everything he can, so as to ensure that children “fulfill potential and enjoy life to the maximum.”
Hutson expressed gratitude at being able to participate in the event. The CEO said that this activity was organized because President David Granger is striving to achieve a ‘Green Economy’. He reiterated the importance of trees.
The entire Tucville Primary School participated in the outdoor activity which commenced at 09:00 hours on Wednesday. Each grade – one to six, was able to present six pupils who planted trees.
According to the Head Teacher of the school, Alison Lanserman, the children were very excited to be part of the event, although there were some who were unable to participate because of the dust. Five trees were planted at the Primary school.
The Deputy Chief Education Officer (DEO) for Primary schools, Principal Education Officer (PEO) Primary and DEO Nursery were also involved in the activity.
