(Kaieteur News) – Seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed, who was brutally murdered on 5th June, 2026 at his Phase 3 Zeelugt New Scheme home, was on Saturday laid to rest.
The funeral service which was held at the Parika Full Gospel Church was attended by Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture Vikash Ramkissoon, who represented the government, APNU’s parliamentarians Terrence Campbell, and Saiku Andrews, and Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP) party leader, Simona Broomes.
Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar had also joined family and friends for the viewing of the body at the Zeelugt home which was held earlier on Saturday.
A packed church service also saw residents of the community, classmates, and teachers who gathered to offer support to the bereaved family.
Kaieteur News reported that the child was found dead in his home with his throat slashed following a home invasion which occurred around 04:45 hrs. on Friday, June 5, 2026 at the family’s Phase 3 Zeelugt New Housing Scheme home.
Mohamed was home alone with his great-grandmother. Around 05:05 hrs., a relative arrived at the home and made the horrifying discovery — Itwari injured and young Adriel dead. The elderly woman, who had been stabbed to the neck, was rushed to De Kinderen Hospital where she was admitted.
A post mortem conducted on Monday, June 8 confirmed the boy died from an incised wound to the neck, compounded by blunt force injuries.
The suspect, Shaheed Mohamed, was arrested the following day. Investigators said he confessed and that his confession was driven by a trail of digital evidence that placed him squarely at the scene.
He was charged with the child’s murder and remanded to prison on Tuesday.
The little boy, who attended the Zeelugt Primary School, was described as an energetic and friendly person. He leaves to mourn his parents, sister and other relatives.
