A 24-year old man was on Wednesday remanded to prison after facing an attempted murder charge in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Denzel Wilson appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on May 2 at Hadfield Street, Georgetown with intent to commit murder he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Seon Wright.
According to Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore, Wilson and Wright were involved in a heated argument on the day in question. The Prosecutor disclosed that Wilson accused Wright of giving police information about him being involved in criminal activities.
The court further heard that Wilson walked up to Wright and dealt him a cuff to the face. Wright after receiving the cuff to his face ran away but the accused pursued him and stabbed him with a knife in the vicinity of Parliament Building, the prosecutor said.
The injured man was picked up by public spirited persons and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in the Guyana Fire Service Ambulance.
The prosecutor told the court that one of the stab wounds that the virtual complainant received is in close proximately to the heart and he is still hospitalised in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.
Wilson who told the court that he resides at Castello Housing Scheme, Georgetown was remanded to prison and instructed to return to court on May 25.
