Concerned personnel of the horseracing fraternity have planned to make a concerted effort to constitute a new executive for the defunct Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) with a scheduled meeting to at least start the process, fixed for the Rising Sun Turf Club on Sunday at 10:30am.
The GHRA has not been functioning for a short bit now and some issues regarding the sport have not been dealt with as some horse owners and other persons cry foul when some decisions that are made go against them at the various racetracks.
The owners, jockeys and all associated have been pleading to have the body constituted and functioning so many problems faced could be dealt with at the executive level in a fair and transparent way according to the rules of the organisation.
The organisers of Sunday’s meeting are hopeful and have every- intent, to see things done differently than in the past. They will be pushing to have records computerized, photo finish cameras installed at all race tracks and would like to have racehorses micro chipped to aid the keeping of better records and help eliminate some disputes.
They intend to have insurance schemes for all jockeys so they can access the best medical care in the event of accident. The organisers of the meeting would want a concerted effort from all involved to have legislation governing the sport passed in parliament so international horses can compete in Guyana and local horses can do likewise overseas.
All owners, trainers, jockeys, grooms and any person associated and or interested in horseracing are asked to be at the Rising Sun Turf Club on Sunday at 10:30am to chart the way forward and make positive decisions for the sports future.
