There were wins by Hi Stars, who came away 3-2 winners against Blueberry Hill and
Silver Shattas scored a polished 2-0 over Net Rockers when the 4th annual Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) organized, GT Beer Cup Christmas football championship, continued Sunday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
Playing in the first game in heavy conditions caused by rain, Hi Stars shot out to a 2-0 advantage in the first half as their experienced forward Tony ‘Spirit’ Adams produced a fine finish after a deflection from an opposing player from inside the 18 yards box to score in the 37th minute.
Then Michael Peters closed out the first half of play when he received a ball from the outside left and scored with a good shot in the 44th minute, as the Stars were shining bright on a cool night 2-0 ahead.
But the Blueberry Hill side got their act together within the first minute of play, when in the 46th minute they cut the lead through an Oral Peters’ strike and in the 59th minute, Rondell Arthur knotted the scores for Blueberry Hill from a good volley.
But Hi Stars were not letting up in their play and they were rewarded through a fine shot off of a cross by Peters to Kwesi Martin who scored in the 69th minute for a 3-2 lead; one which remained in their favour as they registered another win in group play.
The final game of the night between Silver Shattas and Net Rockers was decided on the double strike by forward Colwyn Drakes who scored in each half of the game.
Drakes first struck home in the 23rd minute and then in the 88th he powered home from on top the 18 yards box for his brace in the 2-0 win.
Last night at the MSC ground Federal Winners Connection faced Botafago and Kwakwani Strikers took on Eagles United.
