Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition…Battle of champions headline semi-finals

It will be a battle of current and former champions when title holders Sparta Boss square off against inaugural winners Back Circle for a place in the final of the Georgetown Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition tomorrow night, at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
The two teams, who’re the most successful of any in the competition’s history, earned the right to face each other following narrow victories against their respective opponents on Saturday night, at Demerara Park opposite Thirst Park.

Part of the action in the clash between Broad Street Bullies (yellow bibs) and Leopold Street which the former won.

In the other semi-final, a resurgent Tucville unit held off a tough Leopold Street side by a 2-1 margin to march into the last four, while another team that is looking dangerous and playing excellent, Broad Street Bullies, coasted to a comfortable 2-0 triumph over Queen Street of Tiger Bay, who many felt were favourites to advance.
Playing in the third game of the evening against the stubborn Camp Street All Stars, who undoubtedly have been the revelation of the tournament, Sparta Boss had to wait until the 21st minute to pierce the airtight opposition defence when Courtney Britton fired into the goal.
Both teams treated the large crowd to some enchanting attacking football, but when the final whistle sounded, the score-line remained unchanged in favour of the champs.
Back Circle had similar difficulties against a spirited North East La Penitence side, before Sylvester Richardson’s 19th strike settled the issue.
Earlier, Tucville stood up manfully to an aggressive Leopold Street unit, before winning 2-1.
Leon Richardson’s 21st minute strike had given them the lead, but the nippy O’Kenie Fraser equalized eight minutes into the final period.
However, Denis Edwards scored the winner three minutes from full time to earn Tucville a spot in the semis.
Broad Street Bullies have been the most impressive team to date and a betting person would not be unwise to place a wager on them meeting the final following a string of inspiring performances.
An own goal handed them the lead in the 21st minute, before Lennox Cort sealed the deal one minute from full time to secure their semi-final berth.
