With interest in this segment of motor racing at an all time high, fans of Drag racing are in for a treat when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) stages its ‘Dragz War 2’ International Meet on October 2, at the South

Dakota Circuit.
This has been confirmed by President of the GMR&SC Raj Boodhoo, who spoke to Kaieteur Sport recently about the emerging popularity in the sport and what fans could expect on race day.
According to Boodhoo, over the past two years there has been a significant increase in the amount of participants in the sport and he pointed to the close camaraderie among the competitors and the affordability of components for their machines as some of the chief reasons for the upsurge in interest in this segment.
He said that with the high cost of preparations to compete in the traditional format and the current economic climate, more and more competitors are finding it difficult to be competitive against those who can afford to prepare better or have already been gobbled up by the big corporate entities in terms of sponsorship.
He was happy with the support that Suriname has given to Guyana to revive the sport and expressed thanks to the neighbouring nation on behalf of the GMR&SC.
”Drag racing is getting more and more popular and apart from the collaborative work that the GMR&SC is doing to include other countries, the local competitors are also forming alliances with other countries to make every Meet a success,” Boodhoo said.
He added that with Guyana’s recent outstanding performance in the Dutch territory, he anticipates a day of keen rivalry for the overall and individual titles. Among the top contenders who will represent Guyana are Rondell Daby in his Toyota Supra, Peter day and Sanjay Persaud in their Mazda RX 7, Anand ramchand, who drives an assortment of cars with the Mitsubishi Evo, being the most notable of his range.
Sean Persaud also did well in his Toyota Wagon was a hit in Suriname and he is expected to continue his dominance of the category. The price of admission is children $500 and adults $1000 and the event is sponsored by GTT, Fly Jamaica and Ansa McAl.
