have mushroomed across the country coupled with the relevant executives to conduct the business of women’s football.
Consequently, the lasses are putting the modalities in place for another tournament, ‘FIFA Development Football League,’ scheduled to get underway September 17; the date for the conclusion of this tournament will be released soon.
FIFA has kept its promise and last Friday evening representatives of 13 of these clubs convened at the Dadanawa Street location of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) secretariat to receive a quantity of gears to facilitate the smooth running of activities.
Colin France handed over the gift to General Secretary of the National Association for Women’s Football (NAWF), Andrea Johnson even as he explained to team representatives that the items were acknowledgement of their commitment to develop the sport in the distaff category. “You have demonstrated astute structure and organization which moved (FIFA’s) hand in offering the requisite assistance,” said France. “Your presence here is a clear indication of your continued commitment and I’d like to congratulate you all even as I wish you all the best in the impending tournament,” he concluded.
GFF Communications Officer, Debra Francis, presided over the ceremony and congratulated the lasses for their commitment which resulted in the favourable response from FIFA. She also wished them good luck in their quest for honours.
President of the National Association for Women’s Football (NAWF), Charmayne Wade, was also present at the ceremony and was pleased by FIFA’s gesture. She informed that the gears are for the various teams to assist in their preparations for the tournament. Among the items distributed were uniforms, boots, balls, bibs, shin guards, socks and goalkeeper’s uniforms among others.
Matches will be played at venues in most of the regions including Linden, Kwakwani, New Amsterdam and Rupununi among others.
