President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Wayne Forde is one of nine individuals who will be contesting for four available position on the Caribbean Football Union Executive Committee when elections are held later this month in Miami, Florida, USA.
In an invited comment, Forde, who has been at the helm of the sport locally said that many of his colleagues in the Caribbean had reached out to him as they felt he had the necessary tools to lead the region as President and even Vice President.
But the local businessman said that he felt the timing was not right for him to take on such a huge challenge especially since he recently took on the top spot in Guyana and has a lot of work to do.
Forde has however decided to run for one of the four available spots on the Executive Committee, nine persons will be vying for those spots. He stated that at this juncture, this will be a more realistic move given the volume of work that needs to be done at every level of the sport in Guyana and the Caribbean.
Delegates attending the XXXIX Caribbean Football Union Ordinary Congress on July 23, 2016 will vote for an Executive Committee to lead the organization for the next four years.
Incumbent CFU President, Mr. Gordon Derrick, will seek another four-year mandate but will have to win the confidence of the members over his challenger, Mr. David John-Williams, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation and Mr. Hillaren Frederick, President of the United States Virgin Islands Football Association.
Mr. Cheney Joseph (Grenada, incumbent) and Mr. Osiris Guzman (Dominican Republic) are vying for the 1st Vice President position. Mr. Rignaal Francisca (Curacao, incumbent) and Mr. Anton Sealy (Bahamas) are vying for the 2nd Vice President position.
Mr. Fabrice Baly (St. Martin) and Mr. Lyndon Cooper (St. Lucia, incumbent) are vying for the 3rd Vice President position. Mr. Raymond Anderson (Jamaica), Mr. Richard Dijkhoff (Aruba) and Mr. Hillaren Frederick (USVI) are vying for the 4th Vice President position.
Nine individuals are in the race for the four spots as Executive Committee Member. They are Mr. Wayne Forde (Guyana), Mr. Bruce Blake (Cayman Islands); Mr. Vernold Coombs (St. Vincent and the Grenadines); Mr. Hillaren Frederick (USVI); Mr. Randolph Harris (Barbados); Mr. Eric Labrador (Puerto Rico); Mr. Alain Mijdt (French Guiana); Mr. Maurice Victoire (Martinique) and Ms. Jeaninne Wong Loi Sing (Bonaire).
The XXXIX Ordinary Congress will be held at Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel, Pan Am Ball Room, starting at 9:30 am.
