Head Coach of Slingerz FC Joseph ‘Bill’ Wilson in summing up his side’s loss to Alpha ‘The
Hammer’ United in the final of the Stag Elite League FINALE Final, noted that it was a tough game.
Wilson was speaking with the media after their loss on kicks from the penalty mark 3-0 to Alpha after regulation and extra time failed to separate the two giants of local football.
“Tough game, it is unfortunate that we lost on penalty kicks. I thought we were the better team. But we all know that in penalty shoot out it never determines who the better team is on the night. It determines who the winner is but never determines the winner on the night.”
Wilson has promised that his charges will come better in the final of all finals that will, once and for all, determine the overall SEL champions since Slingerz won the GENESIS and Alpha took the FINALE.
“Hopefully at the next game we’re going to convert our chances, we’re going to be more clinical in front of goal. Hopefully we correct it and we come out successful the next game.”
Slingerz were without the services of the instrumental Vurlon Mills but Wilson noted emphatically that his absence did not affect the team.
“Never, never; Slingerz Football Club, Slingerz football team is a group of individuals and not individuals playing the game.”
Commenting on if the team would have been struggling physiologically, Wilson said that it was too early to make such an analysis but he would have to gauge their attitude when they return to training for what he described as, “The real game.”
The Guyana Football Federation has not given a definite date for the match but many are hoping that the match will be held by this weekend.
