Perreira procured the whistles from a Canadian-based donor and thought that they could help the Officials’ Council become more efficient. Perreira is a former Head of the basketball federation, serving as President in the 1960s and 1970s.
Head of GBOC, Dexter Douglas received the donation, and thanked Perreira for the gesture. He said he grew up listening to Perreira commentate cricket from Bourda, and it was good that he is returning to show some benevolence to sports in Guyana.
