Veteran Golfer, Mike Gayadin, who has been reestablishing his dominance coincidentally with his reappointment as Grounds Superintendent of the Lusignan Golf Club during the latter half of last year, was in fine form as he outperformed the other golfers to capture the top prize in the Safeway Security sponsored tournament last Saturday. Safeway Security of 153 Oronoque & Regent Streets, Bourda, Georgetown, has been supportive of Golfing in Guyana for over 5 years.

Intermittent rain, including some heavy showers, for some twelve hours before daybreak made the normally difficult access road to the Golf Club (and the Lusignan Prison) almost impassable to anything other than 4-wheel drives. None-the-less many of the golf lovers were there, in high spirit, for the first tournament of 2016. The camaraderie was great and golfers enjoyed the day’s play.
Mike Gayadin cleared the friendly rivalry of brothers Roy and Andre Cummings, who placed 2nd and 3rd respectively, at the end of the day. Scores, expressed in the format Handicap/Gross/Net were as follows – M. Gayadin 15/80/65; R. Cummings 11/79/68; and A. Cummings 16/85/69. Best Gross (79) also was delivered by Roy Cummings, and Nearest to The Pin (about 10 ft.) was won by Club Vice President, Patrick Prashad.
Mr Eon Caesar Managing Director of Safeway Security, whose motto is “SECURITY WITH YOU IN MIND”, was on hand to distribute prizes to and congratulate the winners. In brief remarks he declared that he was happy to be starting the tournaments this year for the LGC, and again pledged the support of his company to the LGC. He also mentioned that he was looking forward to seeing many youths involved – as well as more adults – in golfing in Guyana.
Golf Club President, Mr Oncar Ramroop, noting that the condition of the access road would have prevented some persons from coming to the Club, appealed for those present to see how they could garner assistance to get the road repaired urgently. Efforts via the Regional Development Council and the Neighborhood Democratic Council have not yielded fruit so far, but the road needed urgent attention.
He expressed gratitude to Mr Caesar of Safeway Security for the good support of the Golf Club, and also extended New Year greetings to all Club members and their families, wishing them abundance of health and lots of golfing in 2016.
