Republic Bank D’Edward Branch has joined hands is supporting young cricketers and the development of Sports in Region 5. The West Berbice Cricket Association and the Bank on Friday October 09, 2015 launched the Tournament at the Bank’s office in D’Edward, West Coast Berbice.
At the simple launching Ceremony, President of the West Berbice Cricket Association Mr. David Black described the Tournament as a significant achievement for the Board since for the 1st time the Bank is joining hands as an exclusive sponsor for clubs in West Berbice. He urged all the clubs in attendance at the ceremony to be disciplined throughout so that the Bank can be encouraged as a sponsor to support future events.
The Tournament will consist of 16 registered Clubs on the West Coast of Berbice playing two days back to back Tournament. The preliminaries will be played at D’Edward and Bush Lot Grounds where the semi finals and finals are slated for the C3 Recreational Park in Cotton Tree Village, West Coast Berbice.
The tournament is expected to be bowled off in November and the fixture will follow in subsequent releases.
The tournament will be named Republic Bank/ West Berbice Cricket Festival and will feature a 6/6 knockout style. The tournament is being administrated by the West Berbice Cricket Association. For further details the Association can be contacted.
The Bank was delighted to have been part of this initiative since it believes that investment in youths represents investment for the future.
Speaking at presentation ceremony Mr. Imran Saccoor welcomed the undertaking by the Association and urged all clubs to take opportunity of the Tournament and to encourage their communities to come out and support them during the playing of matches.
Further he mentioned that the Bank will continue to support the development of communities within which it serves. He also encouraged the cricketers to open accounts and look for opportunities where they can develop themselves by starting small business and taking advantages of the many loans products that the Bank has to offer including the Small and Medium Enterprise Loan.
