The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport (MCYS) has stepped in to aid the boxers on the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) team to travel to French Guiana for a tournament there from tomorrow to March 15.
Having been faced with a $1M shortfall on their bill the ministry lent much needed support to ensure the team travel to our French speaking neighbours for the event. Monty Profitt of Trustees Pawn Shop also chipped in to assist. This money is to cover the cost of meals, visas, ferry and accommodation.
GBA boss Steve Ninvalle was still trying to get additional funding to cover the full cost of the journey late yesterday.
The tour forms part of the collaborative effort between GBA and the French Guiana Boxing Association following earlier discussions and a visit by French officials as both countries attempt to boost their international boxing ratings and performances.
The team traveling are Taseka Howard and Dwon Thompson the two females; Delon Charles, Aquincy Harvey, Jason Phillips, Glenroy Smith, Eon Bancroft, Dennis Thomas and Trevon King. Fransisco Roldon and Steel Crawford are the coaches with Gordon Nedd as Manager. Germin Craig and Medford Wilson are the respective Referee and Judge traveling with the delegation.
