In an effort to get their teams ready for the anticipated
hectic 2015
cricket season, the Young Warriors Cricket Club of Cumberland East Canje,
Berbice has arranged several practice matches for their teams. Over the weekend, their Under-15 team with players born on September 1, 2000 and after got the better of Blairmont Community Center on first innings.
Batting first, YWCC made 85 for 9 in their restricted first innings allocation of 40 overs with Berbice Under-15 batsman Alex Algoo top scoring with 29. He was supported by Jarron France with 18. Bowling for Blairmont CC, Berbice Under-15 all rounder Seon Glasgow took 3 wickets. A. Ally supported with 2 wickets.
In reply, Blairmont CC made 74 all out with Glasgow top scoring with 37. Aaron Beharry took 3 wickets and was supported by Brandon Pydanna and S. Singh with two wickets apiece. In their second innings at the crease, YWCC were 65 for 2 when the game was called off with Beharry remaining unbeaten on 31. Algoo supported with 18.
In a first division forty over game vs D’Edward Sports Club on Sunday, D’Edward won the toss and batted first and made a paltry 84 in 23 overs. Altaf Khan made 22 and veteran Eon Abel 20. Berbice all rounder Kevin Ramdeen took 3 for 4, Suresh Dhanai 3 for 25 and Balram Samaroo 2 for 18.
In reply, National opener Shimron Hetmyer raced to 28 before he retired. His brother remained unbeaten on 31.
In a release from the club, many more practice matches will be arranged at all levels and clubs are invited to make contact if they are interested.
