Kaieteur Sports – Competitive football is set to make a thrilling return to the East Coast of Demerara as the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Senior Men’s Knockout Football Tournament officially kicks off this Sunday, April 26, at the Plaisance Community Ground.
The long-anticipated tournament will see several Georgetown-based clubs battling for top honours from April 26-May 9, in what promises to be a fiercely contested competition.
The partnership was formally announced yesterday following a brief sponsorship presentation held in the boardroom of NALICO/NAFICO Insurance Company, located on Charlotte Street, Georgetown. The event underscored a renewed collaboration between the GFA and one of Guyana’s leading insurance providers, signalling a strong commitment to the development of local football.

NALICO/NAFICO Insurance partners with Georgetown Football Association to host exciting Knockout Football tournament.
NALICO/NAFICO has once again stepped forward in support of the nation’s sportsmen and women, reaffirming its role not only as a provider of financial security but also as a champion of community development. Known for helping individuals and businesses manage unexpected costs, the company continues to expand its corporate social responsibility efforts through strategic partnerships such as this.
During the presentation, representatives of the insurance firm expressed confidence in the initiative, assuring organisers of their full support. They highlighted that investing in youth development aligns closely with the company’s broader mission, noting that sport remains a powerful tool in shaping discipline, unity, and opportunity among young people.
“The greatest beneficiary of this partnership is the youth,” a company representative stated, emphasizing the long-term impact such collaborations can have on the sporting landscape in Guyana.
The company further noted that aligning with programmes like the GFA Senior Football helps to break down barriers and stigma that have historically hindered the growth of football in the country.
The Georgetown Football Association welcomed the partnership, pointing out that the backing of a corporate entity like NALICO/NAFICO significantly enhances the quality and reach of the competition.
Kicking off the tournament this Sunday will see Campton FC taking on Eastveldt FC at 19:0hrs.
With kickoff confirmed, all eyes will now turn to the Plaisance Community Ground, where the opening matchup will mark the beginning of what is expected to be an electrifying season of football.
