Port Mourant of Zone C (Lower Corentyne/Central) and Hopetown United of Zone A (West Berbice/West) both scraped through
to the playoffs of the 2014 New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition after they both ended their zones tied in the top position with Tain Block Four and Bush Lot Challengers respectively, but having superior run rates in both cases, they both have the right to advance to the next round.
In Port Mourant latest victory, former Guyana Under-19 all rounder Loyydel Lewis hit 64 (4 fours) and Joshua Ramsammy 52 (7 fours) to see them to 251 for 7 in 40 overs against Rose Hall Town Bakewell. When Rose Hall replied, Ramsammy came back with the ball and took 4 for 29 and Berbice Under-19 pacer Dimitri Cameron 4 for 19 to bowl them out for 144. In Tain Block 4’s victory over GuySuco Training Centre, Mahendra Maynard hit 51 and took 4 for 31 and Chinsammy Veerasammy 4 for 31.
While Hopetown United registered a 47 run win over Achievers, Bush Lot Challengers scraped home by one run against Rainbow Generation with Rajbance Hemraj 51 for Bush Lot. Tyson Carmichael made 51 for Rainbow.
Corriverton struggled to a 3-wicket win over No 69 Red Rose to end their Zone P (Upper Corentyne/South) unbeaten and therefore earning a place in the playoffs. Pacer Clavern Beresford took 5 for 25 for them to bowl out No. 69 for 82. No. 69 off spinner Chetram Nowrang then took 5 for 21 to reduce Corriverton to 54 for 6 but they held on to reach 85 for 7.
Pacers Michael Cummings and former Berbice cricketer Eon Gibson took 4 wickets each to help Courtland All Star restrict No. 1 Road to 119 and then former Berbice under-15 batsman Dwayne Crandon hit 64 to see his team to a 7-wicket victory.
Former Berbice Under-19 off spinner Munilall Shivdyal scored 44 and then took 5 for 25 to see Fyrish to a narrow 3 run
victory over Kendall’s Union.
