The Corentyne Cup 2014 Football Competition organized by the Corriverton Links Football Club in association with the Scottsburg Community Centre was launched last Friday.
Five teams are slated to participate, including hosts Corriverton Links, NO 51 Football Club, Courtland Football Club, Manchester/Liverpool Football Club and guest team Teachers United.
According to the organizers the objective of the tournament is to promote football at the senior level in the Corentyne area. Assist in the development of the game in the area and to encourage clubs not affiliated with the defunct Berbice Football Association (BFA) themselves properly organized.
The action is set to kick off on Sunday, with one game. The opening encounter will pit No 51 FC verses Teachers in what is expected to be a keenly contested contest.
The competition will continue on successive Sundays with Courtland taking on Corriverton Links on the 19th. Manchester/Liverpool has drawn the bye.
The final is set for the 14th November.
All the matches will be played at the Scottsburg Ground, Corriverton Corentyne.
Incentives will be presented to the top three teams, highest goal scorer, and best goalkeeper while medals will also be presented to the players of the top three teams.
Among the sponsors are the Swiss house Corentyne, Dr Chand of Skeldon, Sookpaul Service Station, the BFA football enthusiast, coach and referee Randy ‘Blades’ Sears.
