The proprietor of Crown Taxi Service and one of his employees were yesterday brought before the city court to respond to charges which stemmed from a physical altercation between the two.
The proprietor, Nawal Abdool, 48, and Mark Allen, 32, appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that on March 5, last, at East Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, the two men allegedly wounded each other. It is alleged too that Allen unlawfully and maliciously damaged Abdool’s $45,000 spectacles.
When the charges were read to them, they both pleaded not guilty and submitted bail applications through their lawyers.
Both Defence Attorneys urged the court to consider reasonable bail since their clients have had no priors and are not flight risks.
Magistrate McLennan, in response, offered bail to both men.
Abdool who faces a single charge was granted bail in the sum of $40,000. Meanwhile, Allen was required to post $60,000 bail – $40,000 for the wounding charge and $20,000 for malicious damage to property.
Allen and Abdool were bonded to keep the peace pending the outcome of the trial. They are expected to appear before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on April 8.
