Pollydore wins Essequibo leg of Cheddi Jagan Memorial Cycle race
Senior rider, Godfrey Pollydore, emerged winner of the third leg of the Cheddi Jagan Memorial Cycle road race on the Essequibo Coast yesterday morning. The race started from Supenaam.

Alonzo Greaves was deemed as the overall champion for 2014 following his earlier placings and also his second place in the Senior race behind Pollydore, while Raynauth Jeffery finished third.
In the Junior category, Michael Anthony won ahead of Akeem Arthur and Shayuel Aqaed, while winning in the veterans category was Ian Jackson beating Wasim Hasnoo and Wilbert Benjamin in that order.
The Mountain bike section was won by Ozia McCaullay with Lemon Dick second and Clyde Jacobs third.
National cycling coach Hassan Mohamed MS, said despite a few hiccups the racers were able to journey to the Essequibo Coast safely.
Mohamed assured those racers, who unfortunately didn’t place, to be prepared to be a part of the upcoming Janet Jagan race to be held shortly. Mohamed said sponsorship is already garnered for that race.
Navin Chandrapaul, advisor to the President, told racers that they have broken another ground, given all of the pressures. Chandrapaul highlighted that the race is significant, especially to Essequibo’s development, since it is in memory of the late Cheddi Jagan’s life and struggles.
Region Two Chairman Parmanand Persaud commended the cyclists and told them that the Essequibo Leg was another successful one. He added that cycling is now catching on in Essequibo.
Recognition was also given to the oldest rider, Anthony Faria and Naomi Singh, the lone female rider.
Winners received trophies and cash incentives. The Cheddi Jagan race was sponsored by S. Jagmohan and Sons and El Dorado Trading and Construction services. (Yannason Duncan)
