Ronville Gravesande, originally from Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, Guyana and now living in Union, New Jersey, United States of America, is a highly recognized Masters middle distance runner not only in the United States but in the world at large. On Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the United States Track and Field Indoor
New Jersey State meet, Gravesande, running for his club (Shore Athletic Club) in the 4 x 800 meters relay, his team was able to break the long standing 12 year old world record of 9:58.0 for this event in the 60 plus age group.
Gravesande, who ran the 3rd leg of the relay, ran an impressive time of 2:55.98, which was the fastest in his team’s victory of 9:55.96 and a new world record was set.
Besides this world record achievement, Gravesande’s other major accomplishments include: A gold medal in 2012 (1mile), and 2 silver medals (800M & 1 mile) at the United States Nationals Indoor Track and Field meet respectively. In addition, he has won the prestigious international New York City 5th Ave mile for 3 consecutive years, 2010-2012. Also, in a recent article “2013 Masters Long Distance Runner of the Year” published on February 6, 2014 in Runner’s World, honorable mention was made of Gravesande in the age group 60-64.
Gravesande’s future plans include having his own personal world record in 400 meters, 800 meters, or the 1 mile. On March 14, 2014, he will be competing in a high quality field of athletes in the 60-64 age Group at the United States Nationals Masters Indoor Track and Field Meet in Boston, Massachusetts.
If invited, Gravesande would like to participate in May 2014 Guyana Half Marathon.
