Dear Editor,
It appears as though the Berbice Cricket Board has lost its identity. Recently, I have been finding it difficult to differentiate between the RHTY & SC and the BCB. It is evident that the BCB is being managed by a Charity in Rose Hall Town.
I salute this gentleman in Rose Hall Town because not many of us have been able to professionalise the art of begging, especially since most of us have to account for our revenues and face the Auditors.
I read in the Kaieteur News of 4th February, a letter purposely written by the executives of the BCB asking the Government of Guyana, through the Minister of Sports, if it recognizes the GCB. I am quite aware that the GOG is capable of responding but I would like to point out a few things to the executives of the Berbice Cricket Board.
1. The Berbice Cricket Board apparently recognizes the Guyana Cricket Board since it sends teams to participate in competitions of the GCB. How can the BCB now seek guidance from the Minister of Sports?
2. The WICB recognizes the GCB and, on numerous occasions stated that fact. This is the most important thing for the Guyana Cricket Board.
3. Mr. Neil Kumar has attended functions of the GCB over the years and can do so in whatever capacity he chooses. It is evident that Mr. Kumar supports cricket, the cricketers and the GCB.
4. No decent citizen can support the Cricket Bill in its present form.
5. The Cricket Bill resulted from a misguided court action by Angela Haniff, secretary of the BCB and if passed will enable the incumbent BCB to allow phantom clubs, such as Mental Hospital, to vote at their AGM.
6. A recent ruling by the chancellor of the Guyana Court of Appeal has removed the Basis of any cricket legislation not accepted by the Cricket Board and its membership. The ruling further dismissed the notion that the GCB is a non- entity.
7. The BCB Executives again recently filed a court action against the GCB. That action has the following as plaintiffs: Keith Foster, Hubern Evans, Angela Haniff, Anil Beharry, Julian Cambridge, Raymond Haniff, Romesh Munna and Shabir Baksh. It appears that the Berbice Cricket Board is intent on disrupting any smooth operation of the GCB and wants the Government of Guyana to join in their vendetta. The current impasse at the GCB is only benefiting the Charity in Rose Hall, while the Clubs like Albion, who produce cricketers, are suffering.
8. The BCB has forfeited its membership by failing to pay its subscription for the past four years. In fact, the GCB Executives have refrained from enforcing sanctions against BCB.
In parting I would like to add that the Guyana Nagico Super 50 team, selected by the GCB, has just advanced to the semi-finals. This team consists of seven Berbicians who recognize the Guyana Cricket Board. Congratulations to Guyana Cricket Board, Mr. Neil Kumar and the Government of Guyana.
Wake up Berbice Cricket Board or should I say whoever is running Berbice Cricket?
Yours in Sports,
Robin Singh.
