St Lucia has confirmed their participation in the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) National Amateur Goodwill tournament here from February 14-16. The St Lucians will arrive on February 13, same day as Jamaica, who was the first to confirm being here, with a six member delegation.
President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle, had earlier indicated that invitations were extended to Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and St. Lucia. Barbados is unavailable, but Ninvalle said that he is expected to get a firm response from Trinidad and Tobago shortly.
Ninvalle disclosed that the St Lucia team will comprise of three officials, headed by David ‘Shakes’ Christopher, Conrad Federicks, formerly Hunte, and Brian McDonald, who is the Manager; while the fighters are Arthur Nangillur (75kg), Ron Bastiam (69kg) and Linden Micilin (64kg).
Jamaica is coming with four boxers and two officials: Patrick Sahadeo (Lightweight), Anthony Clarke (Light Welterweight), Kestna Davis (Welterweight) and Michael Gardner (Middleweight), Carl Grant (head coach) and Godfrey Collins (coach).
The aim of the tournament is to prepare local boxers for the South American championships set for Chile from March 13-18. Local boxers have already commenced training; among them are Stephan Gouveia, Imran Khan, Bert Braithwaite and Eon Bancroft.
