Barbados completed an eight wicket victory over Guyana in the first round of the Regional U-19 three day tournament yesterday at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
Trailing by 38 runs, Guyana resumed the final day on 33-4 with Kamesh Yadram and Steven Sankar on 2 each. Sankar (02) was the first wicket to fall before Yadram went for 23 to leave Guyana at 60-6. Shawn Pereira was then bowled for 5 at 61-7 before Ricardo Adams and Romario Shepherd stemmed the flow of wickets with an eight wicket stand of 24.
Shepherd was then caught and bowled by Jerome Jones for 13 as Guyana slipped to 85-8. Adams was caught at long leg hooking at a short ball from Shamar Springer, while Denesh Mangal was removed by Jofra Archer for 4 as Guyana were bowled out for 111 in 35.4 overs.
Archer 4-42 and Springer 2-12 were the pick of the bowlers for the Bajans.
Barbados needed 41 to win, but Gudakesh Motie Kanhai removed Walcott (01) and Drakes (00) to reduced them to 10-2 before Aaron Jones and Boyce saw their team home with a third wicket stand of 33 as they finished on 43-2 in 15.3 overs.
