BHS are Pepsi/ Scotia Bank U-15 Inter Secondary Football champs in Berbice
Berbice High School (BHS) continues their new found dominance on the football filed among schools in Berbice when they won both male and female segments of the recently concluded Pepsi/ Scotia Bank U-15 Inter Secondary Football competition which was played at the All Saint’s Scott Church ground in New Amsterdam.
In the finals BHS dominated play before demolishing New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS) 3-0 with Shamar Arendell hitting in a double and captain Dereck Taylor blasting home the other.
In the girls encounter, BHS needled Berbice Educational Institute 1-0 to take the top spot with Shontell Leacock scoring.
Coordinator Lawrence “Sparrow” Griffith on Wednesday travelled to Berbice to hand over the trophies and other incentives won during the tournament. BHS received both winning trophies while NAMS copped the runner up award in the boy’s category and BEI for their second place among the girls.
Also receiving awards were best goalkeeper male – Joel Davis of BHS, best goalkeeper female – Jada DeJonge of BEI, most goal scorer male – Shamar Arendell BHS with six, while on the distaff side, the top female goal getter was Iana Kellman of BEI with four.
The BHS students will now travel to Georgetown for the national finals slated for later this month where they will oppose schools from Georgetown and Linden in the national finals. (Samuel Whyte)
