Captain of the Enmore Track Club, Ornesto Thomas, is now in possession of two gold medals from the recent Morvant Jets and Mustangs Games, which was held in Trinidad and Tobago last weekend.
The Games, which was held over two days at the Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain saw Thomas, a sixteen years old athlete, winning the Boy’s U-17 800m and 1500m events.

The talented athlete indicated to Kaieteur Sport that he produced a new personal best time in the Boy’s U-17 800m in a time of 1:58.05.
The Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) middle distance bronze medalist, who stated he was pleased with his performance in the 800m at Games, recorded 4:14.00 seconds in the 1500m to add another gold medal to his collection.
For this athletic season, Thomas won eight gold medals, two international (Trinidad and Tobago) and six locally.
The local gold medals were recorded at: The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) CARIFTA Trials at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary in the Boy’s U-17 1500m in a time of 4:32.6; LinWest Games, which was held at the Blairmont Estate Ground in the Boy’s 1500m (4:24.5 seconds) and 800m (2:09.1 seconds); IAAF World Athletics Day at Eve Leary in the Boys U-17 800m in 2:06.1; The National Youth, Junior and Senior Championship at Eve Leary in the Youth Boys 1500m (4:24.40 seconds) and 800m (2:02.30 seconds).
However, at the National U-23 Championships, which was sponsored by Digicel, Thomas settled for third and fourth in the Men’s 800m (2:02.20 seconds) and 1500m (4:19.10 seconds) respectively. (Juanita Hooper)
