Drug trafficker jailed for four years, fined $847,200
David Grant, 42, of Lot 3066 North Ruimveldt Georgetown, was on Wednesday jailed for four years by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on drug trafficking charges.
It is alleged that on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Belle View East Bank Berbice, the accused had four Kgs and 800 Grams of marijuana concealed in a bag in a car.
According to prosecutor Corporal Roberto Figueira, the accused travelled to DeVeldt up the Berbice River to purchase marijuana to sell in Georgetown. He left the location at about 20:00 hrs and headed back down the river and reached Brothers Village on The East Bank Berbice at about 23:00 hrs, where he hired a car to take him to Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue.
The car was subsequently stopped by police and Grant was arrested and charged after the drug was found in a bag in the back seat.
He was also fined $847,200.
