The seventh Day of Interaction for 2011 organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/National Sports Commission in collaboration with the Regional Administration, Region 3 was successfully held at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara on Sunday.
The day’s activity commenced with an Opening Ceremony which included a March Past and remarks by Director of Sport who performed the duties of Chairman, Mr. Julius Faeber, Regional Chairman, Ms. Bibi Shadick, former Minister and Member of Parliament who informed the gathering of government’s continued development of sports in Region 3 and who also declared the Day of Interaction open.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon Dr. Frank Anthony took the opportunity to remind those present of government’s progress in sports facilities with specific reference to the synthetic athletic track at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
The special prizes for best banner, largest and best uniformed contingents were won by Tuschen/Uitvlugt Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Stewartville/Cornelia Ida NDC and La Jalousie/Nouvelle NDC respectively.
Competing in the females Softball Cricket finals were Stewartville/ Cornelia Ida and Tuschen /Uitvlugt. Stewartville/ Cornelia Ida lost three wickets after scoring 57 runs in 5 overs. In reply Tuschen /Uitvlugt made 37 for 5.
Best/Klien Pouderoyen scored 67 runs for 3 wickets from their allotted 5 overs before being crushed by Malgretout/Meerzorgen, in the male category.
In the schools games, Stewartville/Cornelia Ida battled Malgretout /Meerzorgen. The latter won the game in 1.2 overs whilst replying to Stewartville/Cornelia Ida’s 19 for 3.
Twelve persons participated in the table tennis junior’s category. The youngsters showed much interest and determination as Renaldo Griffith out played Danielle Samaroo in the finals to secure the winning position.
Kumarraj Thakur and Frankie Ramkarath outplayed their opponents in the preliminary rounds in the senior category. Thakur edged Ramkarath in the finals to capture the spotlight in the senior category which saw ten participants.
Stewartville/Cornelia Ida won the football match against Malgretout/Meerzorgen after attaining nine points ahead of their six.
Clashing in the finals in the ball game of Volleyball was Good Fortune Squatting Area and Good Fortune New Scheme. Good Fortune New Scheme which had in its line up Danielle Samaroo, won by 2 sets to 1.
Stewartville/Cornelia Ida won 51 games to dominate in the dominoes competition ahead of six teams. Toevlugt/Patentia came second with 39 games as Tuschen/Uitvlugt third with 34 games.
Trophies and prizes were received by the winning and runner – up of Neigbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and individuals. Participating NDCs also received sporting gear and equipment to continue the development of sports in their communities.
