Headquarters easily retained their Police Track and Field Championships title last night at Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, owed to outstanding performances from clearly the best athletes in the force.
Headquarters celebrate the retention of the Guyana Police Force Track and Field Championships title yesterday at the Police Sports Club Ground with Commissioner, Henry Greene (centre), joining them in the celebration.
Headquarters amassed 582 points to win the overall championship ahead of ‘A’ Division (314 points; ‘B’ Division (236 points) and Country Division (166 points). Headquarters cemented its place on top of the Police athletic championships.
Janella Jonas, representing ‘A’ Division, was the Champion Female Athlete with a total of 30 points while Nadine Rodrigues was adjudged runner-up after amassing 26 points from her set of events during the competition.
Jocelyn Huggins from Trinidad and Tobago was the Overseas Champion Female athlete. Guyana had beaten Trinidad in the country championships after the host country amassed 366 points with Trinidad miles behind on 71 points.
Trevor Benn and Julio Sinclair share the ‘B’ Class Champion Athlete award after they had a total of 26 points in the category. Winston George was the ‘A’ Class Champion athlete with 34 points with Trinidad’s Shane Dyer taking the ‘Overseas’ award.
The annual Police Athletic Championships is held to select the respective team for the upcoming Joint Services competition, in which the Police are defending champions.
