President of the Chess Federation, Shiv Nandalall strike a pose with the respective winners at the culmination of the Linden tournament
Mackenzie High School student, Jamal Adams amassed 4 points, the same as Shavin Greene but carted off the top prize in the junior category of the KEI-SHAR’S sponsored Linden one-day rapid chess tournament at the Linden Constabulary Recreation Hall, Linden on Sunday May 15 at the Linden Constabulary Recreation Hall.
Lindener Malcolm Archer played unbeaten and amassed seven points from as many games to capture the honours in the senior category. Winslow Parris scored 5 1/2 points after losing one of his games and drawing the other. Benjamin Mc Bean sealed off the final podium spot with five points.
Meanwhile, Adams registered a tie against Shavin Greene and both players finished on four points each. However, Green secured second place on the tie-break system while Dameyon Wills came in third. Oderi Duke placed fourth. Both Wills and Duke scored 3 1/2 points each while the fifth place went to David Rodrigues with 3 points.
The seven round tournament consisted of 40 minutes per game with each player allotted 20 minutes per game. Activities were conducted under the auspices of the Guyana Chess Federation.
