Moen Gafoor retained a rich vein of form to register 5 points and a positive spread of 459 to inscribe his name on the Insurance Brokers Lien trophy when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) staged that tournament the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas lands, Sunday afternoon last.
Orlando Michael returned to the podium with a second place performance of 4 games and a positive spread of 455, while Colin Chichester closed off the medal spots with 3½ points and a positive spread of 282.
While the turnout was not as large as the organizers would have preferred, the competitive spirit was indeed refreshing. Gafoor surrendered his second round game to Chichester but registered wins over Ulric Harris (57), Orlando Michael (34), R O Michael (60), Michael Benjamin (282) and Ruby Cummings (93).
Coupled with his lost to Gafoor, Orlando Michael dropped a game to his dad, R O Michael before defeating Cummings (54), Ulric Harris (186), Grace Hercules (244) and Chichester (17).
