The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) has joined many organizations and individuals who have paid tribute to the memory of former First lady, the Late Joyce Hoyte who passed away on Monday.
Following is the full text of the message:
It was with a feeling of sadness and disbelief that the Management and Members of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club learned of the death of our beloved friend and mentor, Mrs. Joyce Hoyte on Monday February 14, 2011. Mrs. Hoyte since the formation of the club in 1990 played a major role in its development and status as Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation.
Over the years Mrs. Hoyte was always available to the Management to offer valuable advice and to seek support for our numerous programmes and projects. Many of our younger members had benefitted from her words of wisdom and all of us shall miss this remarkable woman who had a natural ability to share her love and warmth.
President Bharrat Jagdeo was correct when he described her as a “Wonderful, gracious and considerate woman” because she really was. Our country is poorer with her passing.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club would always cherish our relationship with the person we loved called “Mum” and we would honour her memory in some form in the near future.
She was the inspiration behind our highly successful programmes when she challenged the club in 1996 to make a positive difference in the lives of the less fortunate as in her words “no matter how poor you are there is always someone who is poorer than you.”
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster along with his brother Alex of the St. Francis Community Developers enjoyed a close relationship with the late First Lady and has described her death as a huge hole that can never be filled as she was like a second mother and one who played an enormous role in their success as youths and sports administrators.
Hilbert Foster recalled that it was only last month himself, Assistant Secretary/CEO Nermala Sewdat, Organising Secretary Ravi Narine and Assistant Organising Secretary Shemaine Campbelle visited Mrs. Hoyte at her North Road home and she was her usual jovial and relaxed self.
Mrs. Hoyte offered advice to the three young Executives on honesty, hard work and personal discipline.
All three executives left her home with admiration for a remarkable role model, especially her humble ways.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club mourns her loss and would like to extend sympathy to the family and friends of this gracious woman who was loved by all and hated by none.
In her memory we pledge to uphold the high standards we have set ourselves and as you always told us to do. May her soul rest in Peace.
