The Guyana Draughts Association (GDA) held its final competition for the year last Sunday at the Brass Aluminum and Cast Iron Foundry Sports Clubs in West Ruimveldt to decide the top 6 players in Guyana. Only the top 10 qualifiers from the National competition which was played at the Guyana National Stadium in October were eligible to participate. Carlton Simon and Khemraj Pooranmall ended with 20 points each to tie for the top spot, while GDA President Mr Jairam tallied 15 points to occupy the second spot. The third place went to Ulric Braithwaite with 13 points while Mark Braithwaite and Davanand Persaud from Tuschen were tied with 11 points each. The game was played on a round-robin basis.
The names of the top six players will now be sent to the Director of Sports as was requested earlier this year. However, other top players in the game who were unable to play the National Competition in October should not feel ‘left out’ since they will also be considered for selection for International games.
