As was predicted, first day leader Roy Cummings survived a dramatic scramble on the final day to emerge winner of this year’s Digicel Open Golf Tournament which ended yesterday at the Lusignan Course.
Cummings, who carded a net 66 and gross 82 from a 16 handicap the previous day, finished with a combined net score of 139 after registering a net 72 on Day 2 to hold off the fast finishing Bolaram Deo and Sookram Deosarran in that order to claim the Digicel Red Jacket which was presented to him by CEO Gregory Dean.
Deo, who finished with a net 72 after day 1, closed the final day with a net 67 for an accumulated score of 139 playing off a 15 handicap, while Deosarran followed up a net 73 on Day 1 with a net 67 for a combined total of 140 playing off an 8 handicap.
The first female to finish in the top six was Rita Heikens, who carded an equal 70 net score for a total of 140 to end fourth, while Imran Khan had a similar combined total of 140, but a net of 69 and 71 respectively which placed him in fifth.
In the individual race, Salim Rasheed collected three awards for the lowest gross, nearest to the pin and the longest drive, whole Kishan Bacchus received a trophy for the lowest net.
Dean speaking after the presentation ceremony thanked the club for hosting the tournament and his staff over the past two days, adding that they truly enjoyed the hospitality and atmosphere that the club created.
“I want to thank you for letting us be a part of your calendar of events and I would also like to commit to sponsoring the event next year,” Dean told the gathering.
Club Treasurer Brian Hackett speaking on behalf of the club extended special thanks to Digicel for being on board once again, adding that Digicel came on board liberally to offer their sponsorship which according to him says a lot about the Company.
“They’ve been able to get family and friends to come out here and enjoy two days of our hospitality and we would like to congratulate them for this,” Hackett said.
Meanwhile, the Media team carted off the top prize in the three-team friendly competition that also involved Digicel and Scotia Bank.
They received a trophy for their exploits.
