– five young cricketers’ benefit
The remarkable development of cricket in the Ancient County continued recently when the Berbice Cricket Board in conjunction with West Indies Middle Order Batsman Narsingh Deonarine launched the Narsingh Deonarine Berbice Cricket Development Trust Fund at the Albion Community Centre.

The five awardees of the Narsingh Deonarine Trust Fund display their gear in the presence of Davendra Bishoo (centre) after the presentation.
A total of five promising and talented Under-15 players drawn from across the Ancient County received $100,000 worth of cricket gear and educational materials from the Development Fund aided by Deonarine and the BCB.
The players benefitting are Javed Seecharran of Black Bush Polder, Gresham Grant of West Berbice, Leon Andrew of New Amsterdam, Sharaz Ramcharran of Albion and Phaffiana Millington of Rose Hall Town and they each received one pair of batting pads, batting gloves along with an educational package.
Chairman of the BCB/Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster speaking at the inauguration of the Fund said that they had a discussion on the initiative and the talented left hander (Deonarine) readily agreed to the proposal as a means of giving back to Berbice cricket and also to assist in the development of new talents for the County.
Foster urged the five awardees to use the gear to develop their cricketing skills and also to make sure that they stay in school and obtain a solid educational background. He also encouraged the awardees to take advantage of the numerous opportunities Berbice cricketers were enjoying. He reminded all that the County was enjoying a remarkable chapter in its history due to the hard work of the Board.
In praising Deonarine, the veteran Sports Administrator noted that it was also nice when sportsmen seek to give back something to the sport which was responsible for their personal successes.
Board Treasurer Anil Beharry opined that Deonarine was one of the most talented batsmen in the Caribbean and called on the five young cricketers to emulate him. Beharry stated that the entire cricketing community was united as never before and together were working with the same aim of lifting the game to an all time high.
Deonarine, who was unable to attend the function due to a personal matter, sent a message which said that he was delighted to assist in the development of new talents and pledged his support in the future. He also advised the players to stay focused and to work hard to achieve their personal goals.
The players expressed gratitude to the BCB and Deonarine for investing into their careers and promised to make all parties proud of them.
They also noted that Deonarine was a role model and hero to each of them and they were delighted to be associated with the programme that was associated with his name.
