The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) in its continued efforts to equip its officers to perform their duties in a professional and sound manner has commenced yet another training programme with funding from FIFA.
Yesterday at the LEAP Conference Room in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden, the official opening ceremony took place and was attended by Regional Chairman Reg. #10 Mortimer Mingo; GFF General Secretary Noel Adonis; Upper Demerara Football Association President Dr. Joseph Haynes and FIFA Coach/Instructor Mr. Roberto Celilino, facilitator of the Seminar. Mingo in his opening remarks complimented the FIFA and the GFF for hosting such a seminar in the Bauxite Mining Town. He also encouraged the participants to make the training work for them and the development of the sport which is still young in Guyana.
Some 22 persons are attending the Seminar which will also see practical sessions being held at the Bay Rock Ground starting today.
Ansa McAl officially sponsors President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic
Ansa McAl, under its Smalta brand, officially sponsored the inaugural President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic, which will be held in Linden on August 29 when Marketing Assistant, Anjeta Hinds handed over a cheque to the Coordinators yesterday.
Hinds told Kaieteur Sport that their contribution was an effort to enhance sports in Guyana with a strong focus on youth empowerment. She stated that the company will always support projects that seek to help young sportsmen and women mature.
“We will always continue to lend support to sports in Guyana. We will continue to help young people grow and mature in a positive way,” Hinds said, adding that society need projects which will help the young be more involved in constructive things.In receiving the contribution, President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, who is also one of the Coordinators of the event, Colin Boyce thanked Ansa McAl for their effort, stating that it is the kind of support that will help put the sport back on top.
Digicel makes Int’l Series bigger, better
-WE lands sponsorship for basketball event
Digicel continued its unblemished record of support for local sports yesterday when the company dolled out quarter of a million dollars to Wildfire Entertainment (WE) to help with the promotion of an International Basketball Series, which starts on Thursday.
Digicel joined Giftland OfficeMax and Beepat’s as major sponsors of the mega basketball event, which includes Guyana against the Washington D.C Jammers for the Godwin McPherson’s Lien Trophy that the Guyana national team is hoping to covet.
The Washington D.C Jammers are expected to get here tomorrow morning for the competition at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. WE Executives, Warren Williams and Vijay Panday, were both adamant that the series will be huge with the corporate support.
