With just a mere 9 months in existence, the Linden Bauxite Flyers Cycle Club (LBFCC) have been extremely proactive in realising their aim of revitalising the sport in Linden.
And having already produced the National female champion in Hazine Barratt, the LBFCC is now moving in the direction of creating more competition to strengthen the standard of its members and to enhance the sport generally.
They have teamed up with Geddes Grant/Fernleaf Milk to host what is being dubbed the Fernleaf Day of Cycling set for Sunday.
The best riders in the land will collide in what is anticipated to be a keen battle in the feature race of the day pedaling off from Land of Canaan on the East Bank of Demerara and will end in front of Mc Rae’s Supermarket, Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Race time on Sunday is 10:00hrs; permission from the Guyana Cycling Federation has already been granted and the Guyana Police Force Traffic Ranks will be out in full support of this eagerly anticipated race.
It is a race with a difference since riders are accustomed to riding from Linden to Georgetown but it will be the other way around on Sunday. Cash and other attractive incentives will be at stake.
Following the completion of the main race, the Amelia’s Ward Circuit will be buzzing with a number of other races which will see races for females, mountain bikes, BMX and senior riders.
The categories for the BMX riders will be 6-9, 9-12 and open.
Yesterday at their main branch, Geddes Grant Sales Manager Samuel Arjoon in handing over the cheque to LBFCC President Brian Mc Rae, who noted that this was one way of his company giving back to their faithful consumers. “We are always ready, willing and able to support sports and our youth in Guyana. We have been supportive of cycling before and will continue to do so. We would like to urge cyclists and fans to come out on Sunday and support this venture.”
Mc Rae expressed gratitude to Arjoon and Geddes Grant for their commitment and partnership for Sunday’s activity.
Arjoon also informed that 30 lucky persons will win US$500 each over the next 3 months in a Fernleaf Milk Promotion with the first draw set for August 20 and every second Friday thereafter. The promotion will end on October 29.
