The challenges of professionalizing the operations of football in the city is becoming more arduous, so says Chairman of the Interim Management Committee appointed by the Guyana Football Federation, Gordon Gilhuys.
The original life of the IMC should have been three (3) months but the body could not satisfy the requirements laid out by the GFF in that time frame which prompted the parent body to extend the time by a further two (2) months from April 15 to June 10, 2010.
In an invited comment, IMC Chairman, Attorney At Law Gordon Gilhuys pointed out that the task of regularising and ensuring that clubs are administratively sound is proving to be very challenging. He noted that a number of them {clubs} have not held elections let alone an Annual General Meetings in years.
“We really want to get this situation under control by having proper structures in place at all clubs and we are urging these clubs to put their houses in order.”
Gilhuys informed that the IMC will be holding a General Council meeting on Tuesday May 25 to update the clubs on the progress they {IMC) has made so far and to encourage those clubs that have not yet complied to get themselves in order.
Gilhuys also informed that a critical area that has to be dealt with in going forward is the finances of the GFA. Efforts are in train with the help of previous GFA Executives to regularise and audit the finances.
